Off-Site Design Engineer


About the Role

The company is looking for an experienced Off-Site Design Engineer to drive the Research and Development activities of Citu, helping to ensure the manufacturing & production teams have sufficient R&D support and that the wider business has the latest materials, systems and advancements to leverage the offsite content within the manufacturing function.

As an integral part of the team your role will be to develop, specify, and, where appropriate, commission, new and revised, innovative materials and processes to produce advanced closed panels products and factory fabricated components.

We are in the process of designing and constructing a new office and experience centre on the side of our factory at Leeds Dock. This is due for completion next year and will form the basis for our offices, event space, exhibition space and innovation space to help advance all areas of the business.


Responsibilities

• Provide R&D design support to the project team and the wider business.
• Lead project specific R&D activities through to completion.
• Co-ordinate both internal and external technical resource to ensure all R&D initiatives are carried out in timely, professional and fully compliant manner.
• Support product and component development and prototyping to increase factory fabrication.
• Liaise with key materials and component suppliers to research and develop improved products and processes.
• Develop and specify the design & process requirements of strategic R&D initiatives.
• Produce, analyse and advise on detailed specifications for suitable materials and processes to be used.
• Establish process flow requirements and expectations.
• Commission processes with our Manufacturing Process Engineer.
• Provide management support to the CAD/CAM design technicians.


More about you

We are looking for a naturally inquisitive and decisive individual who thrives on facts.

You will have an interest in construction technology and techniques and will be motivated by the detail of getting things right.

You will come from a technical background and will have excellent probing and logical mind-set.

You’ll be patient and precise and able to work as part of a small team, with excellent communication skills.


Required Experience and Qualifications

• Ideally design experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Timber frame design experience ideally using software such as, Consultec, Mitek or HSB CAD
• In-depth understanding of timber frame design ideally in residential.
• Ideally familiar with Automotive design principles such as DFMA.
• Ideally qualified to HND in an Engineering, Manufacturing or Construction design.
• Passivhaus design training.
• Ideally three years’ post qualification experience.
• Excellent AutoCAD skills.
• Ideally BIM conversant.


Hours and environment

• We operate a flexible working policy for this role where it is expected that the individual meets or exceeds their objectives, but we aren’t prescriptive about times or days worked as long as the results are being achieved. The ‘usual’ working hours are 9-5:30pm but these vary from individual to individual.
• We are designing and constructing new offices near Leeds Dock which we aim to complete by the end of the year. In the meantime, we are based in open plan offices at our Greenhouse development in Leeds.
