Energy Efficiency in New Build Homes:
What you need to know

At Citu, energy efficiency isn’t a feature — it’s a foundation.

From the outside, a Citu Home might look like a modern, design-led space in a thriving neighbourhood. But it’s what’s behind the walls — and in how the home is made — that sets it apart. This is energy efficiency built in from the ground up.

Every Citu Home is built using our Citu System — a timber-framed housing method that we design and manufacture in-house at our off-site factory in Leeds. It allows us to create homes with exceptional levels of airtightness, up to ten times more airtight than building regulations require. That means less heat lost, fewer draughts, and far lower demand for energy to stay warm.

We insulate with natural wood fibre, which regulates moisture and supports a breathable wall system. The result is a home that holds heat well in winter and stays cool in summer, reducing the need for artificial heating or cooling.

Energy efficiency isn’t just about insulation, though. It’s about the whole environment of how a home performs. That’s why every Citu Home is fitted with:

  •  Triple-glazed windows to retain heat and make the most of natural light
  •  Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems, keeping the air fresh while retaining over 90% of the heat
  •  Solar PV panels (shared across rooftops) and connected to smart tech that helps reduce reliance on the grid
  •  100% renewable energy supply, with no gas connection
  •  Thoughtfully positioned lightwells, roof terraces and large windows to reduce energy demand and improve wellbeing

Because our homes are manufactured in a controlled environment, we achieve consistent performance and reduce construction waste. And because we design the neighbourhoods too, our developments encourage low-carbon living from the street layout to the infrastructure.

It all adds up to homes that are simpler to run, kinder to the planet and built to perform for generations.

In a world where energy use and climate impact are more important than ever, energy efficiency isn’t a buzzword — it’s the way forward. And it’s already happening here.
