First mentioned in the Domesday Book, Attercliffe has a long and rich history. Once known for its orchards, windmill, pleasure gardens and lakes. It developed in the mid 19th century when industry reigned and Sheffield built influence across the country in the manufacture of world class steel.
What will soon become an innovative, sustainable community of new Citu homes is currently an abandoned site with reams of unlocked potential. We’re seizing the opportunity to reimagine and regenerate this waterside spot which is well connected to the city centre by foot, bike or even kayak along a tree lined towpath. The natural beauty is abundant this time of year with a full show of Autumnal colours on parade.
As we prepare for first works to commence in some of the existing abandoned buildings on Attercliffe Road our team have enjoyed looking back while preparing them for a significant sustainable upgrade. The iconic blue Spartan Works building houses some treasures which we will be preserving – a handwritten sign in book with the likes of Rolls Royce clocking in for meetings in the mid 1970s has been a joy to study. Other buildings include a former Fish and Chip shop with a portion of chips available for just 79p and the infamous “Le Chambre”. These buildings will now undertake a significant refurbishment to house a new wave of neighbourhood focussed uses.
It’s time for change at Attercliffe Waterside, time to unlock the potential this historic neighbourhood holds. A re-invention of this place will create an exciting neighbourhood of new homes which will prepare us for the future – built to protect the planet, forge sustainable communities and add a new beauty to a place with rich history.
